We’re looking to see what one of the landscaping industry’s leading publications, Better Homes & Gardens, has to say about the gardening trends to look out for in 2012. From one of their recent articles, here are the predicted must-haves and must-dos for your garden this spring.

  • Old-fashioned plants are expected to be very popular this year as many varieties have been bred to be even bigger, brighter and bolder than we remember them.
  • Like many industries and individuals these days, gardeners are even going greener by composting, choosing water wise plants and also by creating wildlife habitats using fragrant plants, berries and birdseed.

  • Succulents will be scattered all over this year’s gardens as these drought-resistant and visually appealing plants will be used in containers, vertical gardens and groundcovers.

  • Vertical plants are on the rise in more than one way as more gardeners are training plants to branch upwards near exterior walls or choosing plants with particular height to serve as natural privacy fences.

Everyone wants their garden to be in full beautiful blossom come spring. That’s why it is our busiest season for custom gardening and landscape design here at Columbine Design in Englewood, Colorado.
