Container Plant Ideas for Cooler Weather

Just because the weather’s getting cooler doesn’t mean you have to give up on color in your containers. There are plenty of container plants that can endure a chill in the air while offering some cheerful color.

Below are some ideas for containers that will look great in cooler seasons, courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens. Take a look at these ideas for inspiration for your own containers.

We love the simple, natural look of this container, which incorporates the rugged dwarf hemlock and lavender violas. Impatiens, browallia, or wishbone flower can also be used with the dwarf hemlock.

Believe it or not, shrubs also look great in containers, too. This photo shows a great contrast of colors with the red stems of a redtwig dogwood against lush green leaves.

Of course, you’ll want your container plants to smell as wonderful as they look, so be sure to consider a few fragrant plants, too. This fence container brings fragrant flowers even closer to nose level.

Hopefully, you’ve gained a few ideas that you can use with your own containers.
