Stunning Sustainable Garden Features

Turn trash to treasure by re-purposing or renovating wood.

Sustainable landscaping extends from your gardening to the structures around it. Check out these cool ideas that have a great impact on guests but not the environment.

If your property came with a tool shed or barn that is worse for wear, don’t tear it down—repurpose it! Use the salvageable wooden boards to create a gardening shed. If the structure is still in relatively good shape, simply adding new windows and hardware can turn it to shabby chic instead of just plain shabby.

Wood isn’t the only building material that can be salvaged. Natural stone fabricators often have plenty of stone remnants that make excellent pavers. Everything from granite to slate and flagstone can be found in various sizes. Piece them together to form a unique walkway. Get creative and use colored grout, sand, or river stones to fill in the cracks.

These salvaged stones work beautifully as pavers.
